Alzheimer's disease is a continuous disorder that causes brain cells to weaken and ultimately to die. This disease is the number one cause for dementia — causing a decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills resulting difficult for the person to remain independent.
The first signs of the disease can be forgetting recent events or conversations. As the disease advances, the person with Alzheimer’s will develop severe memory deterioration and lose the capacity to execute everyday tasks.
Thanks to new studies treatments have been developed, that may temporarily improve symptoms or slow the rate of the disease. These treatments can sometimes help people maximize function and maintain independence for a time.
